T38 (Paralympics)

T38 and F38 are starting classes of the paralympic sports for athletes in athletics. Attitudes of athletes to the two starting classes are as follows: "Impairment of coordination (hypertonus, ataxia, and athetosis). Athletes show clear evidence of hypertonus, ataxia and / or athetosis during physical examinations. The impairments are mild to moderate and can affect one to four limbs. Coordination and balance are usually weakly reduced and in consequence, these athletes are able to walk and jump unrestricted. "

The classification of the class indicates the competitive level of the functional handicap of an athlete. Athletes in the classes T33 - T38 and F31 - F38 are among the "coordination impairments (hypertonus, ataxia, athetosis, cerebral palsy, stroke, cranial brain trauma and equilibrium"). Low class numbers indicate a higher degree of impairment than high class numbers. Athletes with the class numbers 31-34 start sitting (wheelchair), athletes with the classifications 35-38 standing.
