Mouth (weapon)
Mouth of an M16A2
The mouth of a weapon is the front end of the barrel, the point where the bullet leaves the weapon.
The mouth brake (or the compensator) still sits on the mouth. Muzzle fire is produced by powder which burns explosively before the run, for the containment there is the muzzle fire damper. The velocity of the projectile at the mouth, the so-called mouth velocity, is significant. The barrel can taper to the mouth (taper-barrel barrel) or, as with old front-end loops, funnel-shaped at the mouth (Tromblon).
Some armament systems such as the GEPARD air defense grenade armory also have measuring devices for determining the velocity of the muzzle
