João Anes
João Anes (or João Eanes), born in Tomar at an uncertain date and died in Lisbon on May 3, 1402 was the first Archbishop of Lisbon.
He was named bishop after the murder of his predecessor, Martinho, whom the town defenestrated during the siege of the Castellanos in 1383, believing that he sympathized with the enemy.
In 1395, by a bull of Boniface IX, Lisbon was raised from simple bishopric to archbishopric, Eanes becoming the first archbishop of the dioceses of Évora, Algarve, Lamego and Guarda.
He also participated in the creation of a new parish in Lisbon, due to the dismemberment of Sacavém and Beato: that of Santa Maria dos Olivais. The creation of the new parish was sanctioned by the Pope in 1401.
