Rodete
Rode of a centrifugal pump affected by cavitation. Rodete of a turbine in a lathe.
An impeller is a type of rotor located inside a pipe or conduit and responsible for impelling a fluid. Generally, this term is used to refer to the moving element of a centrifugal pump, but sometimes it is also used to refer to the moving element of turbines and fans.
It consists of a disk perpendicular to the axis of rotation, composed by blades curved in the direction opposite to the movement. Depending on the stresses and aggressiveness of the medium to be driven, the impeller may be made of metal alloy, such as steel or aluminum, or of some polymer, such as polyamide.
The fluid enters the center or eye of the impeller and is drawn by the vanes in the radial direction, exiting the volute and from there, to the outlet pipes in the single stage pumps, or is picked up by the next impeller in the multistage pumps, which consist of several runners placed in series.
The geometry of the impeller is vital for high hydraulic performance.
