Palette (painting)
An artist palette.
A palette, in the original sense of the word, is a rigid, flat surface in which a painter arranges and mixes the paintings. A pallet is usually made of wood, plastic or other non-porous hard material, and can vary greatly in size and shape.
The best known type of painter's palette, for oil or acrylic painting, is a thin wood, preferably walnut, kidney shaped, designed to be held in the hand of the artist, who places the finger thumb into a side recess and rest it on the arm. For painting in watercolor are used with small bowls made of ceramic, plastic or glass.
Distribution Each artist finds his personal way of distributing the colors according to the range he is using; they are usually placed on the outer edge black, white and then the shades, reds, yellows, greens and blues, which are mixed and tinged with the brush in the central part of the palette to achieve the desired tones. >
