Marià Burguès
Marià Burguès Serra (born August 1, 1851 - November 20, 1932) was born in Sabadell, province of Barcelona, the son of a potter from whom he also learned the trade.
He was an artist, thinker, Spanish writer, a great connoisseur of the city of Sabadell. He founded the Academy of Fine Arts of Sabadell and Faianç Català.
He won several prizes in literary and artistic contests, and promoted the recovery of Catalan ceramics.
He left the book Sabadell of my record - a memoir - which describes the customs, daily life, streets and traditions of the city of Sabadell of his time. He was also a man worried about the problems of the inhabitants of his city, mainly of those belonging to the working class, to which he tried to help in his demands to improve his conditions. Thus, directed the newspaper Los Desheredados, directed to this end.
Before his death, in 1932, his pottery workshop was transformed into the Municipal School of Ceramics.
