Frederick Baumann

Friedrich Baumann was born as the son of the town judge George Heinrich Baumann and his wife Ulrike Kienitz (baptism on 15 January). Baumann visited the municipal schools in Angermünde and Marienwerder and went to the trade school in Berlin in 1840. Here he studied for several years before going to Bromberg.
He became famous as an architect "Frederick Baumann" in Chicago. Here he built the first high-rise of the city, the 5-storey Washington block, together with Edward Baumann.
