Västerlånggatan
Västerlånggatan Västerlånggatan, Dezember 2009
Västerlånggatan and Österlånggatan are two streets in the Old Town Gamla Stan of Stockholm in Sweden.
Västerlånggatan and Österlånggatan were the main streets of Gamla Stan for a long time. They followed the course of the first defensive wall, which ran above the roads. They run in the north-south direction and meet at the Järntorget (iron square). Both were mentioned in writing in the 15th century and were called 14m Allmänningsgatan, respectively Långa gatan, sometimes with the addition "west" and "east". In 1546 the Västerlångatan is called "Westra longgatun" and in 1558 the Österlånggatan "Østra long gatun".
Today the building consists mainly of multi-storey, plastered stone houses from the 18th and 19th century. While Österlånggatan plays a more secluded role in tourism, Västerlånggatan Gamla Stans is a large shopping street with tourist-adapted restaurants and souvenir shops.
At the address Västerlånggatan 31 was the home of the Swedish Prime Minister, Olof Palme, who was murdered on Friday, February 28, 1986 at Sveavägen. Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext Commons: Västerlånggatan - Collection of pictures, videos and audio files
