Nava Palace

Facade of the Palace of Nava.

The palace of Nava is a palatial building that is located in the surroundings of the Plaza del Adelantado in La Laguna, Tenerife. It is an example of Canarian architecture that combines Baroque, Neoclassical and Mannerist elements. This mixture is fruit of the different constructive moments that the palace underwent since two centuries passed between reforms and extensions.

It began to be built in the year 1585 by order of Tomás Grimón, regidor of Tenerife. In 1591 works on the facade are completed, although this would be repaired later in the seventeenth century. In 1777, Don Tomás de Nava Grimón and Porlier, the fifth Marquis of Villanueva del Prado, who was the promoter of the Tertulia de Nava and creator of the Botanical Garden of the Valley of La Orotava, carries out different reforms in the architectural set of the house, including the modification of the façade, this time decorating it with blue stonework as can be seen today. The palace has been declared of Cultural Interest since 1976, with the category of Monument. Currently there is a project to convert the Nava Palace into a National Parador. Conservation
