Lodenwalke Ramsau am Dachstein

Company and production headquarters

Lodenwalke Ramsau am Dachstein is an Austrian company for the production of loden and walkloden. According to own data, the operation from Ramsau on the Dachstein is the oldest commercial enterprise in Styria. Company history

The first historical mention of the farm was in 1434 in the Admonter Urbar, a list of monks from the Admont Abbey. Since then, records, purchase contracts and tax payments have been documented which document the company's history.

Up to the 19th century the production of the fabrics was done by hand. It was not until around 1860 that Johann Walcher took over card machines from Leoben and established the first machine spinning mill. His son Zacharias Walcher bought the first mechanical looms and hand knitting machines in Germany.

However, the old workshops still exist today. However, the plant was rebuilt and modernized in 1938 after a flood in a higher position. Electricity from two factory hydroelectric power plants provides drive and heating. In the 1990s the main building was enlarged and the premises were redesigned.

Today Lodenwalke produces not only loden materials, but also fine fabrics for suits, costumes and coats - from raw sheep wool to the finished piece. The raw wool of Australian sheep has been used as a raw material for these products.

Jörg Steiner - a direct descendant of Johann Walcher - owner of Lodenproduktion. The original Schladminger Perlloden, which is characterized by its irregular appearance, has become a popular body of people and is today well-known all over the country. Weblinks Edit sourcetext
