Juan Salvador Anselmo Daza
Juan Salvador Anselmo Daza and Bolaños was born in Valledupar, Viceroyalty of New Granada (now Colombia) around 1760. Son of Bertolomé Ramón Daza and Mendoza and María Bernarda Bolaños Rivadeneira. He was a Creole military man who served as governor of the province of Girón in Santander by orders of Pablo Morillo, and was also Lieutenant Adviser of the governor Rafael Samper. Colonel Daza was awarded the American Grand Cross of Isabel the Catholic. He participated actively in the interests of the monarchy in the region of the Governorate of Santa Marta, especially in the region of Valledupar, where he fought against patriotic troops during the independence of Valledupar.
Restored the civil power, published a pamphlet against Simon Bolivar by the Magdalena campaign. He was taken prisoner by the patriots. He was exiled by sentence of a Martial Court and sent to purge a sentence of 5 years to Curacao. He died in captivity, attesting to his loyalty to King Ferdinand VII of Spain sometime before July 1834. Bibliography
