International Federation of Bodybuilding


The International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) is a sports organization recognized by GAISF as the only international body representing bodybuilding in the world. It was created in 1948 by Ben Weider and Joe Weider, and since the late 1980s it has been in talks with the IOC for bodybuilding to be accepted as an Olympic sport. Today, the veteran president and founder of this sports body, one of the most federated in the world, Ben Weider, has given way to a prominent bodybuilding ambassador, Spanish Rafael Santonja. It has a total of 191 full member countries, being the 6th international federation with the largest number of member countries; the men's world championships have more than 300 participants from more than 60 countries.

The IFBB collaborates with the World Anti-Doping Agency, an agency of the IOC, to eradicate doping in this sport, which is one of the most harmed by this practice; in fact, the organization of the World Games excluded the IFBB permanently in April 2010.
