Dead Funny is a 1994 drama independent film directed by John Feldman. It begins with Vivian Saunders starring Elizabeth Peña, a woman who returns after working to find her boyfriend Reggie Barker, starring Andrew McCarthy nailed to the kitchen table with a knife.

Argument

Vivian Saunders returns home one day to find her boyfriend Reggie Barker lying on the table in his kitchen nailed by a sword. At first, Vivian thinks it's a kind of joke, but soon discovers that Reggie is really dead and, as she calls her best friend Louise (Paige Turco) to try to find out what might have happened and what to do, remember that she lost the knowledge the night before after drinking too much wine and is not sure what she did prior to fading away. After a couple of calls, Vivian's women's support group arrives, and Reggie's corpse matter must wait while Vivian decides how to proceed. Distribution Publication

This film has only been distributed through VHS and LaserDisc formats. Reviews David Nusair of DVD Talk spoke negatively of the film, saying that "by the time we discover what happened to the character of McCarthy, it is impossible for one to care." Time Out Magazine also reviewed the film negatively, writing: "How did it happen? Who did it? Who cares? Probably not Feldman, who seems much more interested in filming the naked thighs of his actresses." The New York Times stated that Dead Funny "tries with too much effort and very little result to be witty and ambiguous that ends up deceiving itself."

Variety, however, reviewed the film positively, praising the performance of Elizabeth Peña.
