Wladyslaw Studnicki

Władysław Studnicki (born November 15, 1867 in Dünaburg, Germany, January 10, 1953) was a Polish politician. In 1910 he proposed the creation of a Polish state as part of the Austro-Hungarian-Polish monarchy. In the 1930s he demanded an alliance between Poland and Germany. This alliance should be open to further accessions of neighboring countries and to secure peace as a central European bloc. Studnicki's books were banned in the People's Republic of Poland.

Modern Polish historians such as Andrzej Piskozub, Paweł Wieczorkiewicz, Jerzy Lojek and Tomasz Gabis assess Studnicki's proposals as groundbreaking. Such an alliance would have hindered both the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact and most likely the Second World War, and prevented the spread of communism to Eastern and Central Europe, and that Poland would not fall under the dominion of the Soviet Union.
