Regio sternocleidomastoidea

Musculus sternocleidomastoideus

The sternocleidomastoid region is one of the regions of the neck and corresponds approximately to that of the muscle of the same name. This muscle is visible through the skin on the stretched or sideways turned neck. In the case of meager people, a dimple can be seen between the two muscular masses, called the fossa supraclavicularis minor. The paired sternocleidomastoid region lies between the unpaired cervical anterior region and the respective lateral cervical region.

Underneath the muscle lies the vessel-nerve cord of the neck with throat, throat and vagus nerves. In addition, the upper root of the ansa cervicalis lies on the throat artery. Edit source text
