sludge factory

A sludge was a structure in brooks and rivers, with which one tried to separate the contained gold grains by slurry (washing).

Quotation from the Oeconomic Encyclopaedia Volume 119 of Johann Georg Krünitz, Heinrich Gustav Flörke, Friedrich Jakob Floerke, Johann Wilhelm David Korth In Saxony one makes no difference between washing and mud works, but names the latter with both names arbitrarily.

Mud work in the art Edit the source text

The land-art artist Richard Long creates mud works with his hands and feet, applying to walls with dilute mud or clay, circles, rings and lines. In three circular arrays of wiped handprints, the exhibition included one-of-a-kind in the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Houston, Texas, in 1966. Another exhibition, with impressions of his right hand, was shown with the title Slow hand mud Spiral in the Anthony D'Offay Gallery 1988.
