Walter Holy


Walter Holy (born 15 August 1921 in Osnabrück, Germany, March 7, 2006 in Cologne) was a German trumpeter.

Walter Holy was a trumpeter in the orchestras of Herford (1945), Bielefeld (1945-1950), Frankfurt (1950-1951) and Hannover (1951-1956). In 1956 he moved to Cologne to the WDR. In 1968 he became a lecturer at the Folkwang-Hochschule in Essen. He was one of the first trumpeters, who specialized in the ventillous baroque trumpet in the 20th century. From 1960 he was the first trumpeter of the Cappella Coloniensis. In 1996 he received the Johann Ernst Altenburg Prize for his services to the baroque trumpet.
