Pléyone or Pleíone (Greek, Πληϊόνη) is in Greek mythology an oceanic, daughter of Ocean and the titanide Thetis. From its union with the titan Atlas were born in Cilene (Arcadia) the Pleiades, the Hyades and a called son Hiante.
Pléyone and the Pleiades were pursued by the hunter Orion for five or seven years, until they were transformed into pigeons and later catasterized into stars of the constellation Taurus by Zeus. The Hyades, on the other hand, were also transformed into stars of the constellation of Taurus, like their sisters, but in this occasion circulate two different versions on the reasons of this catasterismo: could be a prize for having taken care of the infant Dionysus and having given it to Ino or could also be because they were consumed by the crying after the death of his brother Hiante by the work of a wild boar, a lion or a snake.
