Clausdieter Schott
Claus Dieter Schott (* 1 November 1936 in Freiburg im Breisgau) is a lawyer, legal historian and professor in Zurich.
After the Abitur in 1956 at the Berthold-Gymnasium in Freiburg, Schott studied law and economics in Freiburg and Munich. He dropped the two state spoils in 1960 and 1965. From 1963-1964 he was a scientific assistant to Hans Thieme at the "Institute for Legal History" in Freiburg, and Ernst von Caemmerer from 1965 to 1970 at the "Institute for Foreign and International Private Law". Schott was promoted in 1965 with a dissertation on the expert opinions and jurisprudence of the lawyers' faculties; In 1970, he qualified as a lecturer on medieval fiduciary trust and received the teaching authority for German legal history and civil law.
Schott was 1970-1977 general secretary of the society for legal comparison. In 1973 he became an extraordinary professor in Freiburg i. Br. From 1975 until his retirement in 2004 he was full professor for legal history and private law at the University of Zurich. At the same time, he was the head of the "Research Center for Legal History", founded by Karl S. Bader, and also head of the "Rechtswissenschaftlichen Seminar" (1980-1992). 1992-1994 he was dean of the Faculty of Law. He is a co-founder of the magazine for more recent legal history and co-editor of the series Signa Iuris, published since 1979.
