Saeko Hirota scored her first success when she took part in the Japanese team's gold medal win at the Asian youth championship. In 1967, she won the title of the Asian Championships for adults in the double with Sachiko Morisawa and with the Japanese team.

In 1967 and 1969 she took part in a world championship. At the 1967 World Cup, she won the gold medal with Sachiko Morisawa in the absence of the Chinese athletes, and she also became world champion with the team. In 1969 she and Mitsuru Kōno finished the final in Mixed and with the team the semi-final.
