Imst is a town in the federal state of Tyrol in Austria. It lies on the banks of the River Eno in the west of Tyrol, about 55 km west of Innsbruck and at an elevation of 828 meters above sea level. Its population is 11,400 inhabitants (2006). Imst is the administrative center of the Imst District.

History

Imst has been licensed since 1282 to maintain a regular market, and full city rights were granted in 1898. Track of Luge

In 1958, the first refrigerated luge track in Imst was completed. The track was 1000.9 meters long with 17 laps and a slope of 124.8 meters, with an average slope of 12.48%. Imst hosted the Luge World Championships in 1963 and 1978, and hosted the European Luge Championships in 1956, 1971, and 1974. SOS Children's Villages

In 1949, Hermann Gmeiner founded the first SOS Children's Village in the Sonnberg district of Imst.
