The ichthyometer is a device used in Ichthyology to quantify the length of the fish. It can be used in the field, with live or anesthetized fish, or in the laboratory, on fixed specimens. It consists of two smooth plates arranged perpendicularly, as a square. The long arm is superimposed on a comparative pattern: typically a 30 cm long tape measure. How to use
