Shamsher Bahadur Singh
Shamsher Bahadur Singh, 13 January 1911 - 12 May 1993 is a pillar of progressive trilogy of modern Hindi poetry. Shamsher was born on 13 January 1911 in Dehradun. His father's name was Tarif Singh and the supreme Goddess of the mother. His brother Tej Bahadur was two years younger than him. His mother used to call both brothers 'pair of Ram-Lakshman'. Shamsher was 8-9 years old when his mother died. But this couple of brothers remained till Shamsher's death. His early education took place in his Nanihal Dehradun. Later education took place in Gonda and Allahabad University. In the year 1935-36, he took art training from the Uikeel brothers.
In 1929, when he was 18, he got married to Dharmavati. After six years, in 1935 Dharmavati died from TB. Shamsher, twenty-four years old, found this lack of life always being present in the poem. By taking the person whom he took away, keeping him alive in his poetry, he continued to compete with that period.
Shamshir was influenced by Leftist ideology and progressive literature in the youth. His life was of the lower class person.
He died in Ahmedabad on May 12, 1993.
