Colima Earthquake of 1973


The Colima Earthquake of 1973 occurred on January 30, 1973 at 3:00 p.m., the magnitude of which was 7.6 on the Richter scale. Although it was a very strong earthquake, the city of Colima did not suffer great material damages. Nevertheless, in Quesería fell a fence, killing a person, being the unique death of the same one.

For more than four hours there was no electricity and the telephone service was also suspended. Governor Pablo Silva Garcia was in contact with President Luis Echeverría, and the following day he began to travel through the municipalities of Tecomán, Armería and Manzanillo.
