Mariano Malandía Tena, "El Tuerto de las Tenerías" (Zaragoza, 1847 - ibídem, April 8, 1935) was a singer of Aragonese jota active in the last third of the nineteenth century, rival and friend of the also mythical Pedro Nadal and Aure, "the Roy of Rabal." Biography
He was born on Cereros street in the San Pablo neighborhood of Zaragoza. Orphan, he went to live with his uncles, who were dedicated to the countryside, and in his youth he moved to live in the Tenerías to later devote himself to the trade of weaver. He had thirteen children and was very popular, friendly, of good character and of remarkable ingenuity besides religious devotee of the Virgin of the Pillar.
He excelled in the cultivation of several styles of jack, such as "fiera", "fematera", "rabalera" and "boast". During his activity as singer he established a healthy rivalry between him and Royo del Rabal. The year 1878 gave a recital for Alfonso XII in Madrid.
Prodigied his art to great characters of his time, as was usual to gain prestige as a singer in an era in which there were no competitions joteros. After his retirement as a singer in 1914, after a performance in the Pignatelli Theater, he dedicated himself to playing the requinto, one of the most characteristic instruments of the rondalla or musical group primarily of pulsed string that accompanies the song of the jota. p>
