Goldstein first played with the TSV warlord in his youth and changed to FC Augsburg in 1979 and was appointed to the DFB's school and junior national teams. Under the direction of coach Dietrich Weise, Joachim Goldstein belonged to the extremely successful German junior year, who won the U18 European Championship in Germany in 1981. As a youth player, Goldstein was placed in the Bundesliga in four games of the season 1980/81. In the 1981/82 season, Goldstein received a professional contract at TSV 1860 Munich, which had just moved into the newly established 2nd Bundesliga. After the season, the lions went to the amateur camp for financial problems. For several years, Goldstein still played third in the Bayernliga at TSV 1860.
