Antankarana

The Anankarana or Antakarana are an ethnic group of Madagascar that lives in the extreme north of the island, near Antsiranana. Its name means 'tsingy people' (which are the limestone rock formations that distinguish the territory traditionally occupied by the Anankarana). The tsingy of the antankarana can be visited in the reserve Ankarana. By 2013 there were about 50,000 Antakaran in Madagascar. Distribution of Malagasy ethnic groups.

The Anankaranas speak a dialect of the Malagasy language, which is a branch of the Malay-Polynesian language group derived from the Barite languages, spoken in southern Borneo.
