Sandro Mazzinghi

Sandro Mazzinghi (born October 3, 1938 in Pontedera) is a former Italian boxer in semi-weightweight and former world champion by version of the WBC and WBA, as well as European champion.

After the first 16 victories in the professional career, Sandro Mazzinghi joined Giampaolo Melis. After points, Mazzinghi lost. On September 7, 1963, Mazzinghi competed against Ralph Dupas for the WBC and WBA World Championships in light-weight. Sandro won the battle by technical knockout in the ninth round, as well as the direct re-entry also by technical knockout round 13. After three successful title defenses and 8 wins in non-title fights, Mazzinghi fought against Nino Benvenuti on June 18, 1965. Benvenuti won this fight through K. o. In the sixth round. The revenge lost Mazzinghi by points.

Mazzinghi was able to win the European Championship title, also in the middleweight, against Bo Högberg on November 11, 1966, by technical knockout on lap 14.

On May 26, 1968, Sandro Mazzinghi once again won the WBC and WBA crown by a semi-weightweight against Ki-Soo Kim through a split decission. His title defense against Freddie Little did not score. The belts were returned.

The fight afterwards also got no valuation and after another five victories against builders in 1969/70, Mazzinghi resigned. Seven years later, he returned to the ring for three bouts, which he also easily won after points against insignificant boxers. Sandro Mazzinghi retired in 1978. Weblinks Edit sourcetext
