Metropolitan Athletic Federation


The Metropolitan Athletic Federation (or FAM) is the body responsible for athletics in the Federal Capital and Greater Buenos Aires. It was founded 4 of July of 1919 and is affiliated to the Argentine Confederation of Athletics. History

On July 4, 1919, the Argentine Athletic Federation was founded, thus giving rise to federated athletics in Argentina. On November 1, 1919, the first Metropolitan Athletics Championship was held at the Athletic Club San Isidro, organized by the Christian Youth Association. A year later, on April 2 and 3, 1920, the Argentine Athletic Federation finalized the first National Athletics Championship. The FAA was internationally recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations and the International Olympic Committee from its inception in 1919 to 1961, when it was handed over to the Argentine Athletics Confederation.
