Some of these gifts have been described by Paramahansa Yogananda in his autobiography of a Yogi (1946), including a direct description of Yogananda's own gift with Mahavatar Babaji. Another direct description was given by Mr. Yukteswar Giri in his book The Holy Science. All these descriptions and other meetings with Babaji Mahavatar are described in various biographies as outlined by Yogananda.

Mahavatar Babaji's real name and birth date are not known, so during that period, the person who came to them during the period used to call him first by the name given by Lahiri Mahasaya. "Mahavatar" means "great avatar" and "babaji" simply means "revered father". Some meet-ups, which had two or more witnesses- discussions between all those who meet Mahavatar Babaji indicate that they all met the same person.

Meetings with Mahavatar Babaji, 1861-1966 Lahiri Mahasaya

The first recorded meeting with Samhawatra Babaji was held in 1861, when Lahiri Mahasaya was appointed as an accountant of the British Government in Ranikhet on the job. One day while walking around the Ranikhet hills in the hills of Dunagiri, he heard somebody calling his name. Walking behind the back of the mountain, he met with "a glorious monk of a tall height". He was amazed to know that the sage knows his name. This sadhu was Mahavatar Babaji.

Mahavatar Babaji told Mahasar Lahiri that he was his guru in the past, then he conferred them in Kriya Yoga and instructed Lahiri that he should begin to give charity to others. Lahiri wanted to stay with Mahavatar Babaji but he told him to go back to the world to teach Kriya Yoga and that "Kriya Yoga will be spread through the world through his presence (Lahiri)."

Lahiri Mahasaya told that Mahavatar Babaji did not give his name or background, so Lahiri gave him the title of "Mahavatar Babaji". Many sadhus in India are called Babaji and sometimes "Babaji Maharaj", which also causes confusion between Mahavatar Babaji and other sadhus of similar names.

Lahiri Mahasaya had many meetings with Mahavatar Babaji, who have been written in several books, among others, the autobiography of a yogi of Paramahansa Yogananda, Yogiraj Shyama Charan Lahiri Mahasaya (Biography of Lahiri) and full man: Yogiraj Sri Sham Phase Lahiri. Followers of Maha Lahiri

Many disciples of Lahiri Mahasaya also said that they met Babaji. Through discussions with each other and the fact that there were more than two or more witnesses of some of these gifts, they have confirmed that the person who had seen was the same sadhu which Lahiri had called Mahavatar Babaji.

In 1894, a disciple of Sri Yukteswar Giri Lahiri Mahasaya met Mahavatar Babaji at Kumbh Mela in Allahabad. He was surprised by the similarity between Lahiri Mahasaya and Mahavatar Babaji. The others who came from Babaji also commented on equality. In such interviews, Mahavatar Babaji instructed Mr. Yukteswar that he should write Kaivalya Darshanam or The Holy Spirit's book. Sri Yukteswar met two more meetings with Mahavatar Babaji, one in Lahiri Mahasaya was also present.

Swami Pranabanand Giri, another disciple of Lahiri Mahasaya, also met Mahavatar Babaji in Lahiri's house in the presence of Lahiri Mahasaya. Pranabanand asked Mahavatar Babaji for his age. Mahavatar Babaji replied that at that time his age is about 500 years old.

Swami Keshuband Giri, a disciple of Lahiri Mahasaya, talks about meeting with Mahavatar Babaji near the mountains near Badrinath near 1935, when he went astray in the mountains. Pranabanand told that at the time of the visit, Babaji gave him a message for Yogananda, "He is eagerly expecting, I will not meet him this time but I will meet him on any other occasion."

Other disciples of Lahiri Mahasaya who talk about meeting with Mahavatar Babaji include Swami Kailanand Giri and Ram Gopal Muzumdar, who describes Mahavatar Babaji and his sister whom he called Mataji called. Apart from this, a female disciple of Trilanga Swami, Shankari Mata (called Shankari Mai Jivas) also met Mahavatar Babaji when visiting Lahiri Mahasaya. Traditional legends about Mahavatar Babaji

According to Yogananda's autobiography, his mother is a sister of name (meaning "holy mother") which has been alive for centuries. His level of spiritual realization is equal to his brother and he lives in spiritual underworld in an underground cave. Although only three pages in the book are devoted to him, Ram Gopal has been described as "young and infinitely beautiful" and "brilliant woman". Mahavatar Babaji as Krishna
