Ibn Bassam


Ibn Bassam of Santarem (Ibn Bassām Aššantarīnī) was a natural Muslim writer and historian of Santarém, who lived in the Iberian peninsula in the 12th century. Work In his work Aḏḏaḫīrah fī maḥasin ahl alǧazīrah, commonly known as Dajira ('Treasure of the beautiful qualities of the people of the peninsula'), collects historical facts of the Taifa of Seville and of feats of the Cid Campeador, but also of Portugal and of the Spanish Levante, counted through Muslim authors; so Ibn Bassam is quoted as an anthologist.

As own works are known the Pearl Necklace and the Book of the Column.

The Dutch Arabist Dozy was based in part on the accounts of Ibn Bassam for his work of 1861, History of the Muslims of Spain to the conquest of Andalusia by the Almoravids.
