Fred Morton Locke

Fred Morton Locke (born April 24, 1861) was an American inventor and entrepreneur in the insulator industry.

His parents were William Morton Locke and Amy Jame Moore.

He came as a telegraph operator of the New York Central railroad to Victor, New York. He thought the common glass insulators were unsuitable and began experimenting with porcelain. In 1894 he developed the first porcelain high-voltage insulator. In 1898, he founded his porcelain factory Victor Insulators, Inc. in 1908. In 1904 he retired from the company (or was forced out by investors), leaving the management to his son Fred J. Locke. In 1905 John S. Lapp was one of the employees there.
