Jérôme Gapangwa Nteziryayo received the priestly ordination on 20 August 1972 and was incardinated into the clergy of the Diocese of Uvira. John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Uvira on July 1, 1985. The archbishop of Bukavu, Aloys Mulindwa Mutabesha Mugoma Mweru, consecrated him to the bishop on October 20, Co-conspirators were Léonard Dhejju, Bishop of Bunia, and Faustin Ngabu, Bishop of Goma.
