Clastogen

A clastogen, in biology, is a mutagenic agent that results in or induces chromosome disruption or breakdown, leading to chromosome sections being deleted, added, or reorganized. This process is a form of mutagenesis , and can lead to carcinogenesis, when cells that are not killed by the clastogenic effect can become cancerous. Known clastogens include acridine yellow, benzene, ethylene oxide, arsenic, phosphine, and mimosine. Exposure to clastrogens increases the frequency of abnormal germ cells in paternal males, contributing to developmental changes in the fetus after fertilization.
