Caldo michi


Caldo michi is a soup of fish cooked in its juice, originally from Ocotlan, Jalisco, in particular from the lake of Chapala, although it might be thought that the name comes from the state of Michoacán, is the Nahuatl michi word meaning fish. This recipe is currently also available in Colima and Michoacán.

It is prepared with fish of fresh water, almost always catfish but sometimes tilapia, as well as cooked vegetables (chayote, potato, zucchini, tomato, green tomato, among others) serrano chile and chipotle, seasoning the plate with salt and lemon to taste. In addition, the vegetables can be fried a little before cooking.
