Wally Lamb grew up in Connecticut, first studied pedagogy at the University of Connecticut and then taught English at a high school in Norwich. In 1981, he began writing and also completed a writing study at Vermont College. Later, he directed the Department of Creative Writing at the Department of English at the University of Connecticut.
