Tar Zerind

Tar Zerind (? - c. 971), was a noble Hungarian Lord of the late ninth century, father of Cupan. It is presumed that Tar Zerind was the son of the noble Lord Tevel, who was in turn the son of Tarhos, the son of Great Prince Arpad. This would turn Tar Zerind into great-grandson of Arpad and according to Christian customs, possible heir to the throne of the Hungarian Principality. Pretensions on the power of the Hungarian Principality of Cupan, son of Tar Zerind

After the death of Tar Zerind, decades later, his son Cupan would maintain pretensions to the command of the Principality. After Prince Géza of Hungary converted to Christianity in 972, he would put an end to the pagan custom of the senioratus, where the oldest member of the family would be the one to take command, regardless of whether he was a direct heir. After the death of Prince Taksony, Géza would gain command, not because he was his son, but because he was the oldest in the family, and so probably after the death of Géza, his younger brother Miguel, would have received power. After the early death of Michael and the birth of Géza's son, St. Stephen I, Cupan's attempts to take command, son of Tar Zerind, would be defeated and killed by St. Stephen.
