Sutlej (Punjabi: Sutlej, English: Sutlej River, Urdu: درياۓ ستلج) is a Hadiariara river flowing in northern India. Its legendary name is Shatadru. The length of which is highest in the five rivers flowing in Punjab. It flows through Pakistan.

Origin

At the height of 4,600 meters above sea level in southwest Tibet, it originates from Monastery near Monsoor, where its local name is Logen Khambaw. Runoff

Prior to entering Himachal Pradesh from the premises, it flows westward and flows near the shield of Kailash Mountain. From here the river flows through the deep pits and the gradual elevation of the mountain ranges becomes transformed into the Sutlej Valley. Determining its way from Himachal Pradesh's mountains, this river enters Nangal of Punjab. A few kilometers above Nangal has been built on the Sutlej in Bhakra in Himachal Pradesh. A huge reservoir has been constructed behind the dam, which is called Govind Sagar reservoir. The Bhakra Nangal project produces hydroelectricity, which is supplied to Punjab and adjoining states. After entering Punjab, this river flows between the Shiwalik hills in Ropar district of south-east. From Ropar it falls on the ground from the hill, from here it flows towards west and flows in the middle of Punjab, where it divides Best Doab (north) and Malwa (south). In the Harike, Beas river is found in Satluj, from where it turns to southwest and determines the border line between India and Pakistan. After this, it flows west of Phazilka in Pakistan for a short distance, except for India. Near the west side of Bahawalpur it connects to the river Chenab. Both rivers combine to create the pentad. Nomination

It is called Shutudri in the River Sutva of Rigveda. In the ancient times Saraswati river was found in 'Shutudri' only. In its later literature, its popular name is 'Sathadru or Sathadru' (containing hundred branches). While coming from Kaykay to Ayodhya in Valmiki Ramayana, Bharat describes the crossing of Shatadru. In the Mahabharata, along with other rivers of Punjab, Sattadru is also mentioned. In Shrimadbhav, it is mentioned along with Chandrabhaga and Marudhvarda etc. - 'Shushmoha Shathadrshandrabbhamamrudvarda Vignaasta'. In Shishadra in Vishnu Purana, it is said to be known from Himman mountain range: 'Shatadrachandrabhagadya Himavattapadinta: . In fact, the source of the Sutlej is the Ravana-Dandi lake, which is in the west of Mansarovar. At present, Sutlej meets 'Bias' (Vipasa). But Rabbi, the author of 'The Miharn of Sindh and Eatridge Trivaries' is of the opinion that' before 1790 AD, Sutlej was not found in Beas. This year, the path of both the Beas and the Sutlej changed and they got closer. Shadadru is a variation of Vedic Shutudri and it can mean a river with currents. Which indicates the existence of its many tributaries. Greek writers have called Sutlej a hedigrade. But the mention of this river is very rare in their texts. Because the armies of Alkshindar had gone back from Beas river and they had little information about the country located in east of Beas. Contribution

Satluj also contributes to the prosperity of Punjab. On the Sutlej, the dam built on Bhakra not only supplies electricity, but it also avoids the major part of the state from the flood. Canal of Naval Bandh, Sirhind and Canal of Best Doab, which comes from Ropar, canal like Sirhind, Rajasthan Canal and Bikaner Canal, which comes from Hussainiwala, receives water from all the Satluj.
