Gustav A. Wetter


Gustav Andreas Wetter (born May 4, 1911 in Mödling near Vienna, Austria, November 5, 1991 in Rome) belonged to the Societas Jesu from 1936 onwards and studied Soviet history and philosophy.

Wetter entered Collegium Russicum in Rome in 1930 and became its rector between 1947 and 1954. In Christmas 1935 he was ordained a priest by the Byzantine-Slavic rite. He obtained his doctorate at the Pontifical University of Gregoriana. From 1957 to the 1970s, he was Professor of History of Russian Philosophy at the Pontifical Oriental Institute and Gregoriana.
