Football Oberliga Nordrhein 1989/90


The Football League of North-Rhine Westphalia 1989/90 was the twelfth season of the Oberliga Nordrhein, which was jointly organized by the Fußball-Verband Mittelrhein and the football association Niederrhein. Like the previous years, the champions of the Oberliga played against the masters of the other Oberlige for the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, while the second place was entitled to participate in the amateur championship. From the Oberliga Nordrhein qualified for the ascent of the Wuppertaler SV, failed however in the ascent round however and thus remained in the upper league. The Rheydter SV as the top runners-up of the Oberliga Nordrhein reached the second place in the amateur championship. The club SG Union Solingen, the VfB Remscheid, the second substitute Alemannia Aachen and the SC Brück, were relegated to the lower federation of the Middle Rhine and Lower Rhine region in the 1990/91 season. In return, the TuS 08 Langerwehe and the VfB Homberg from the federations rose, while Alemannia Aachen descended from the second league to the Oberliga Nordrhein, whereby the league size reduced to the consecutive season on 17 teams.
