Buttock Point

Buttock Point from south-west

Buttock Point is a Cape in the north of the Scottish island of Bute and therefore belongs administratively to the Unitary Authority Argyll and Bute. It rises into the seas of Kyles of Bute and marks the northernmost point of the island. The hill region in the north of Butes is only very sparsely populated, which is why there are no localities or residential buildings at Buttock Point and its surroundings. Also, there are no roads leading to the headland where the megalithic site of Michael's Grave is located.

Buttock Point also marks the northernmost point of the Kyles of Bute, which separate Bute from the Cowal Peninsula on the Scottish mainland. These are from the west, to the north-east, and then, following the coastline of Butes, turn south-east. Opposite, the sea-hole Riddon, about five kilometers deep, branches off to the north. Northwest, near the Cowal coast, is the small island Eilean Dubh. A few hundred yards west, the three Burnt Islands are located in the Kyles of Bute. Single-level Edit source text
