The Regional was a Chilean newspaper, of local character, published in the city of Coquimbo. It should be noted that apparently this newspaper was not a continuation of the first version of El Regional, which appeared in 1942 and ended in the early 1970s. History

The first edition of the new version of El Regional appeared in Coquimbo on Monday, September 12, 1988. Its price was $ 70. In the first edition he talked about the preparations for La Pampilla in 1988.

In the first editions appeared numerous announcements of companies and people of the region, in order to greet the nascent newspaper. The cover of the first edition was completely printed in colors, but in the next editions would use flat colors applications in special cases. Its first and only director was Roberto Balanda Perez.

The paper would cover important events that would be developed in Chile and the Region of Coquimbo between the late 1980s and early 1990s, such as the plebiscite of October 5, 1988, where the option triumphed Do not; the presidential and parliamentary elections of 1989; the return to democracy by assuming Patricio Aylwin as president in 1990, and the La Pampilla versions of 1988, 1989 and 1990.

According to the newspaper archives in the Municipal Library of Coquimbo, the last edition was number 1,069, dated August 22, 1991. It had an extension of 16 pages and cost $ 140 the copy. The exact causes of the closure of the second version of El Regional, which lasted only 2 years and 11 months, are not known.
