Principality of Fortune

The Principality of Fortune was a fief dependent of the Holy See granted by Pope Clement VI in 1344 to Luis de la Cerda, Infante de Castilla, through the bull Tue devotionis sinceritas. Its name refers to the Canary Islands, identified with the Lucky Islands of the Antiquity and calls so frequently.

The only condition placed by the pope was that Luis de la Cerda carried out the evangelization of the Canaries, however, the infant did not obtain economic or military support, so the principality was in the pipeline. However the title of "Prince of Fortune" was used by him and some of his descendants. Princes of Fortune Notes
