José Luis Champalimaud
José Luís Antunes Feio Terenas Champalimaud (born September 15, 1939 in Nova Lisboa, Portugal) was a Portuguese doctor and researcher.
Champalimaud was hospitalized after completing his medical studies. Study trips and missions to combat epidemics have led him to Africa several times. In the clinical observation of several patients from Guinea-Bissau with clinical signs of chronic diarrhea, he succeeded in isolating the second type of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-2) in 1986.
In addition to his scientific work, Champalimaud took a lively interest in university life and was elected to the Senate of the University of Lisbon in March 1991.
2005 was named after him in the Portuguese capital of Largo José Luís Champalimaud. Weblinks Edit sourcetext Standard data (person): VIAF: 99640126 | Wikipedia People Search
