Makris

Makris (Greek Μάκρις) is a nymph of Greek mythology. She is the daughter of Aristaius and Autonoë, sister of Actaion and nurse of Dionysus. She fed the young Dionysus, whom Hermes had given her, with honey-corn. Driven by Hera from Euboea, she lived in a grotto on the island of the Phaeaks (which Apollonius equated with Kerkyra), a late version of the myth. Their presence was a blessing for the country's cultivation, so that the island bore the name of Makris. The wedding of Iason and Medea took place in their grotto.

It is possible to identify with Nysa, which also appears as a nurse of Dionysus in mythology and is described by Diodorus as the daughter of Aristaius. Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext Edit the source text
