Maine-Anjou

Maine-Anjou Cow and calf

Maine-Anjou (French: Rouge des prés) is a cattle breed in the Anjou region of western France.

These are large-sized animals, cows 142 cm withers at about 800 kg, bulls approx. 152 cm withers at approx. 1200 kg, which are used for meat consumption. The animals are brown-red-white pied and horned. The breed originated from the intersections of a landrace with Shorthorn reindeers in the 19th century. In the middle of the 20th century the meat performance and slaughter performance of the breed was significantly improved.
