Granulating barrel

Giant (anti-hail) canyons at an international congress aimed at hail in 1901.

A barrel is a device used in agriculture to prevent the formation of hail storms that end up damaging crops.

The anti-hail cannon, by explosions of acetylene gas and air, emits shock waves that move at the speed of sound and interfere with the crystallization of hail, resulting in rain or soft hail instead of solid hail. Despite being widely used by farmers, the effectiveness of this mechanism is questioned by some experts. The scientific studies both by those promoting this mechanism and by their detractors are practically non-existent.
