Frederick James Hiltz (born 1954 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian theologian and the current primacy of the Anglican Church of Canada.

Hiltz grew up in his birthplace Dartmouth and received his Bachelor of Science from Dalhousie University in 1975. In 1978 he achieved his Master of Divinity at the Atlantic School of Theology. Hiltz received the honorary doctorate from the University of King's College, Halifax in 2002.

On 3 June 1977, he was ordained as a deacon, and on 29 June 1978 he was ordained as priest. In the following years, Hiltz was active as an Anglican priest in several parishes, including Christchurch in Sydney, Melford-Guyborough in Timberlea-Lakeside, The Cathedral Church of All Saints in Halifax, and St. John's Church in Lunenburg / p>

In 2002 he was elected bishop of the Anglican diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Since 2006 he is a member of the Anglican-Lutheran International Commission. The Guardian newspaper describes him as a bishop with rather liberal tendencies. Hiltz is a moderate, liberal theologian who, among other things, supported the blessing of same-sex couples on the general synod of his church. Hiltz followed his predecessor Andrew Hutchison as a primate in 2007.

Hiltz has been married for over 30 years and has a son Nathan, who is a jazz guitarist and music teacher in Toronto. Single-level Edit source text
