Analysis of associated words

The analysis of associated words, or coword analysis, is a science-based methodology that allows the drawing of word networks from textual documents. It is used in the knowledge systems as an instrument to identify the centers of interest of a scientific field. It was devised in the early 80's at the Center de Sociologie de l'Innovation de L'École de Mines de Paris by Michel Callon, John Law and Jean Pierre Courtial.

The analysis of associated words is based on the Actor-Network Theory which considers that Science is built from human and non-human actors and can be represented by word networks. The analysis of associated words is the basis of the knowledge systems between which Leximappe and Copalred are among others.
