Linguistic repression

Linguistic repression is the set of actions deliberately exercised in a territory against a language (or languages) and their speakers, in order to impose in the same other language; these actions usually involve the use of coercive measures against those speakers. On the one hand, it is a matter of favoring or protecting one language especially, and of prohibiting, pursuing or limiting the use of another.

Three ways of imposing a language have been pointed out: by force, through negotiation and through persuasion.
